Ahhhhh! We finally closed on the house this past Wednesday! I definitely would not recommend trying to move into a house mid-week, but that's what we got. Luckily Justin was off yesterday and was able to get EVERYTHING unloaded from the PODS with the help of some buddies. Thanks guys for all the help! They were awesome to get everything done so fast and I must admit they put things where they belonged! I confess, having to work while the guys were at home unloading, was a real test to my 'control freak' ways, but they did AWESOME! No chipped paint on the walls, no chipped furniture, and the dining room is pretty much set up....and the hutch is actually centered on the wall! I know...I was amazed too!
So...are we going to unpack this weekend? NOPE! We have better plans for the weekend. My brother is getting married (to a wonderful lady I might add!) this weekend and we wouldn't miss it for anythng! The house can wait...we're headed north bright and early tomorrow morning to join the family for the wonderful occassion. Not to mention we are getting our boys back tomorrow also! It's going to be a great weekend!
Have a wonderful weekend....I'll post pics of the new place once I clear a few boxes out of the way :)

We're Homeless!
Hey there! Yes...I've been MIA from the blogging world, but so much has been going on which leaves little time for computers in the evening. The holidays were wonderful as always and since then we've been busy packing up the house and getting things nailed down with the builder on the new house (which is more frustrating than I ever thought).
As of yesterday, we are homeless...so to speak. We sold our old house (I'll miss her...she is a great house!), but unfortunately the new house is not ready for us. So, the boys remain in WV with Nana, Pap Pap and all the other cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. And we are in NC staying with some wonderful friends! We are so truly thankful to the McNeal's for letting us stay with them while the new house is getting finished. And we're also very thankful for our family in WV for keeping the boys and letting them have fun while we're out of a house and out of toys, etc. for them to play with. Without the help of everyone, we don't know what we would do! Thank you all so very much!
They are having a blast in WV...and probably even going to get some snow to play in! But we miss them already so we're definitely ready for the new house to be ready so our family can all be in one state very shortly.
Oh yes...the fact that we are staying at Aiden's girldfriend's house is sort of a secret. So please don't spill the beans. He was very upset last night when he knew we were at her house so we chose to change the story (ok...we lied) so he would not worry about the time with Hannah that he is missing. Plus, we definitely promised a big sleepover when we finally get in the new house. I think that makes up for lying don't you??
Take care and we'll definitely have pics of the new house when she's finally ours. Everything is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26th now...so hopefully things won't fall through again. Prayers definitely needed because this momma needs to be settled and have her boys back with her!

Happy Birthday Mr. B
Happy Birthday Mr. B!! One year ago today we adopted Brody and he has been the perfect addition to our family ever since! The boys love him, he is so tolerant of their poking and pulling at him and we couldn't stand to be without him! True...I could actually stretch my legs out at night before him...but I wouldn't change a thing! I can't count the times over the past year we've asked ourselves why someone would give him up?! In the end...he was meant for us and not them. For that...I am truly grateful! He is probably the smartest dog I have had and I swear he actually knows what we're saying to him. Oh how I wish I could be in his mind one day and figure out what he thinks! Especially when he sees the boys running towards him :) Happy Birthday Brody! We love you!!

Off to Papa Goats Tree Farm
Off to Sparta...to Papa Goats Tree Farm! Last year was the first year we traveled to the mountains for our tree and we had so much fun we went back to the same tree farm. They have everything you can want...hayride, great trees, santa, free hot chocolate, cider and marshmallows and animals on the farm. Not to mention they are so friendly and they treat everyone like family. We will definitely be back again next year

Max is off to find a tree...watch out!
Aiden helped me carry the long pole. Such a big helper!
Max is searching high and low. He thinks his measuring stick is a telescope!

Still looking for the perfect tree!
Taking a little break. I love those boys so much!!! My heart overflows...
And of course Max got stuck in the brush. No worries...we got him and all was better in 10 seconds!
We founds the perfect tree...but Max continues his search...

On our way back to the farm to warm up with some hot chocolate!! The wind was COLD!!!

Aiden telling Santa he wants a crane with a dump truck and also some zhu zhu pets with a home.
Max was a little flustered with Santa...so instead of telling him what he wanted for Christmas...he just told him about his 'light up shoes'. Too funny! It's almost like his little brain was saying, "Quick...say something...anything...this is my chance!" And all he could talk about were his shoes.
Stuffing pure sugar into his mouth before the car ride home! We had such a great time riding to the mountains and just having some relaxing family time. We hope you all are enjoying your family and taking some time to slow down a little bit this holiday season. Merry Christmas!!!

Happy 5th Birthday Aiden
I'm so behind!! Mostly because the past few weeks have been so busy and fun that there hasn't been any time for blogging. But I can't very well let my little boy's 5th birthday go by and NOT blog!!
My little boy is 5!! (sigh). Hard to believe, but he's growing up! This was by far the best birthday yet purely because of how excited he was to be turning the big number! He's a whole hand now! On his birthday he told everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) that his name was Aiden and he was 5 today! It was so cute to see how proud he was of himself. And to be honest...we're a little proud of ourselves too because he's such a great kid. I know we don't have everything to do with that...I give that to God...but I would like to think we had a little to do with his loving, caring, sincere and hilarious personality.
We love you Aiden!! We hope you had the best day ever!! We sure enjoyed it with you!
Aiden had a great group of kids come to his party! They all had a blast...and the parents did too!

I found these cute favor bags over at Perideau Designs. Head over there and check them out! You can get them personalized and they are priced great. They even have some for the holidays!

Aiden got to count down for the lights to be turned off for the Glow party. He had a blast...."LIGHTS OUT WOO HOOO!" Those were his exact words.
Cute Max in the boxing ring...

And of course his Toys Story cake!

Even though he tells me 'he's allergic' to cake...he still wanted a cake made by his mommy. I'm glad he thinks I'm cool....that won't be the case for much longer I'm sure!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Dineen
My last cake order for 2010....a wedding cake for Mr. and Mrs. Dineen :) I saw this cake before I even got a request for a wedding cake and thought it was so elegant. I changed the flowers a bit and I love how it all turned out. Simple and elegant... I hope they love how it turned out!

Sugar flowers made with gumpaste, dusted pale yellow and finished with a pearl glaze.

The poor bride came down with the stomach bug. I hope she was able to feel better by the time the ceremony started. Everyone deserves their beautiful wedding day to be perfect...I hope she enjoyed herself...as much as she could.

Lover's Leap
Whew!! Busy week of cake! This week I have been up to my elbows in cake and icing...at times I thought I was crazy for taking on a groom's cake and wedding cake in the same week, but I couldn't say no because I loved the idea of both the cakes! I'm a sucker for making pretty things :)
I have only met the bride and groom once, but I think they are such a cute couple! The are SOOO the couple that you can tell they are so in love from the moment you meet them. Soooo cute! Which is another reason I wanted to do both of their cakes :) I'm also a sucker for love and cute couples! They both like to ski/snowboard...so hence the groom's cake. Lover's Leap is such an appropriate name since marriage is truly a 'double black diamond' at times...but well worth every bit of hard work you put into it :) Congratulations Jarrett and Miriam!! I wish you two all the best!
I always get asked the question, "How long does it take to make a cake?". That is so hard to answer since each cake is unique...some look easy but take much longer than expected. I hardly ever watch the clock when making a cake, but this time I had set times to work on it so I have a better estimate than some other cakes.
As you can see...the cake itself wasn't too hard to do. Since it was a mountain it didn't require a lot of smoothing, but I did have to carve some. The figures themselves took me approximately 7-8 hours to make. Add the baking time, making icing, rolling fondant, decorating, delivery etc. The time can quickly add up. I would say this cake probably took 12 - 14 hours if I had to guess? Time consuming...but so much fun to see the end product! Hope the helps next time you're wondering how much time goes into a special cake :)

Will be back soon with wedding cake pictures!!
